September 29
In August 2009, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. By September 29 that year, chemotherapy had caused me to lose my hair. That date became the starting point for a recurring self-portrait. Photographing myself each year on September 29 allowed me to record the changes in my mind and my body. The images connect the passage of time with the enduring memory of treatment. September 29 developed into a personal exploration of vulnerability, recovery and recognition.
